Faith Foundations II: The Status of The Sunnah and Intro to Hadith Sciences

An eleven-week course on the The Status of The Sunnah and Intro to Hadith Sciences followed by a final exam. The course curriculum is taught by Ustadha Fatima Lette, with complimentary commentary by Ust. Abdel Rahman Murphy.

Overview
Faith Foundations II is the initial course in our adult higher level education series at Roots. This course is meant to be a comprehensive introduction into the core Islamic Sciences: Quran, Hadith and Sunnah, Islamic Law, and Theology.


Course Dates, Timing & Tuition

Faith Foundations II will be taught once a week, on Tuesday nights beginning February 9th. The entire course curriculum will consist of 11 hours of coursework, with each class being held from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm (cst). This course will also be offered to students as an online course.

The course cost is $85 per student for those who are financially able, with a "no questions asked" policy for those who would like a financial scholarship to attend the course. If you would like to request a scholarship for Faith Foundations I, please email info@rootsdfw.org. 

The online class will be streamed live via Zoom through a private link for any students registered for the Online class. The streaming link will be sent by email to each registrant prior to the first class. All class videos will be accessible throughout the full 11-week term, InshaAllah. 

Each student will receive an introductory email prior to February 8th confirming his/her registration, providing information on how to access the online-courses and sharing the class communication platform link.

The class is designed to be a virtual - live class, and class participation is highly recommended however all videos will be stored for later viewing.

Class Syllabus will be emailed prior to 1st day of Instruction with additional Roots introductory materials. Please confirm a physical mailing address where items can be sent to you directly when registering for the course.


Lessons will include a full study of the The Status of The Sunnah and Intro to Hadith Sciences, including: 

  • The Status of the Sunnah

  • Ulum al-Hadith

  • Preservation and compilation of hadith

  • Understanding different categories of hadith literature/their focus

  • Hadith compilers and their works

  • Understanding isnaad

  • Classifications of hadith: authority

  • Classifications of hadith: number of narrators

  • Classifications of hadith: ahaad

  • Understanding of weak hadith
