Basics of Islamic Understanding

What is the objective of this course?

  • This course is structured to teach teenagers the basics of the Islamic faith. Once a student finishes this course, they will have theoretical and practical knowledge of religious obligations and faith principles.

Breakdown of each week’s lessons:

  • Session 1: The Shahada (An Intro to Allah and His Messenger)

  • Session 2: Prayer: Obligatory, Sunnah, and Voluntary

  • Session 3: Preparation for Prayer (Wudu and Cleanliness)

  • Session 4: How to Pray (A full walkthrough of the steps and pillars of that make up prayer)

  • Session 5: Zakah and Purifying Wealth

  • Session 6: Fasting in Ramadan

  • Session 7: Hajj and Umrah (What to expect when you go to Makkah & Medina)

  • Session 8: Modesty (Rules of clothing and the way we carry ourselves)

  • Session 9: Knowing Allah and His Attributes

  • Session 10: Belief in the Messenger (What is Sunnah and Sīrah?)

  • Session 11: Belief in the Angels and the Unseen Creation

  • Session 12: Belief in the Qur’an - how was it revealed and how do we know it’s authentic?

  • Session 13: Belief in the Day of Judgement - why are heaven and hell necessary?

  • Session 14: Qadr (Divine Decree)

  • Session 15: Ihsān (Excellence): Giving quality to our faith and worship

  • Session 16: Review of all covered concepts

  • Session 17: Final Exam

How Each Session will be Broken Down:

5 PM - 5:10 PM - Review of previous class concept.

5:10 PM - 5:40 PM - Lesson

5:40 PM - 5:45 PM - Q&A and Recap
